The Republic of the Union of Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) is a country in Southeast Asia, bordered by Bangladesh, China, India, Laos, and Thailand. The history and culture of the country can be traced back thousands of years to when various kingdoms and empires ruled the land. Myanmar is a predominantly Theravada Buddhist country with the rest of the population practicing Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, and various ethnic religions often influenced by the Chinese. It should be noted that Christian and Muslim minorities are subject to discrimination, despite the promise of religious freedom in the country.

The dry season in Myanmar is considered to be the best time to travel to the country as the weather will be most cooperative and the temperatures tend to be a bit cooler than they are during the rainy season. Dry (high) season generally lasts from December through February.
