Off-Road in Luang Prabang

Trekking, Hiking, and Caving
There are many types of trekking and hiking tours available including treks to Kuang Si Waterfall, Thin Pha Trail, Tad Sae Waterfall, all in Luang Prabang.
Vang Vieng, Vientiane, Luang Namtha, and Paksong are also popular hiking destinations for visitors. Vang Vieng has many places to explore including the Tham Xang cave which is situated along the Nam Song River. There’s also Tham Hoi cave which goes deep into the mountains. There’s also a cool pool of spring water to explore at Tham Nam cave where the water is crystal clear.
In Vientiane, the National Park Phou Khao Khouay has many beautiful waterfalls, and lots of exotic wildlife such as tigers and elephants. Paksong is in the highlands of Laos which is known for its lush jungles, waterfalls, and many coffee plantations.
Mountain Biking
Where there are trails, there are mountain bikers! You can hire a mountain bike yourself or hire a guide to take you to the best trails. There are mountains, forests, and lush countryside to cycle through and it’s a unique way to see Laos. Luang Prabang remains one of the most popular destinations for mountain bikers with lots of surrounding forests, streams, and rivers to cross.
Kayaking, Rafting, and Canoeing
You can Kayak along the great Mekong River or canoe in some of the smaller rivers located all over the country. The Nam Xeung river has been left totally unspoiled and features some very exciting rapids which are suitable for all paddlers. There are various white water rapids located all over Laos.
If rapids aren’t your thing, you can take a gentle kayaking trip along the Nam Khan river where you will take in some wonderful scenery including huge mountains, large forests, rural communities, and more. There are numerous rivers where you can just sit back and let the river take you on a magical ride through the countryside of Laos.
Wildlife
Loas is home to some stunning species of birds, mammals, reptiles, butterflies, and other animals. You can go bird watching, or trek in the jungles where you can still see wild elephants and tigers. As a tropical country with large lush tropical forests, life is abundant and there are many tours available which will show you the stunning and unique wildlife of Laos.
