Lying just west of Thailand, Laos, and China is the untouched gem of Southeast Asia, Myanmar. Come join Adventure Asia to explore the hidden wonders of this historically and culturally rich country. The adventure will explore the colonial city of Yangon, the historical city of Bagan, as well as beautiful Mandalay. Cruise along the Irrawaddy River and explore the glorious Mount Popa and Inle Lake. This tour will take you to best of the urban areas and natural wonders that Myanmar has to offer; eating lots of good food, shopping through the markets, and learning about the history and culture that make Myanmar unique along the way!

Day 1: Yangon
Activities: Arrive in Yangon
Meals: Dinner
Itinerary: On the first day, guests will arrive in Yangon where they will be met by their guide and brought to their hotel for check-in. The rest of the day will be free to explore this colonial city.

Day 2: Yangon
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Itinerary: Today guests will rise early to travel to the Schwedagon Pagoda. On arrival, guests will tour the area learning about the history of the structure and the people living in the surrounding area. This part of the tour, through the workshops, markets, and monasteries, will also expose guests to the history and the significance of Buddhism in Myanmar, giving them a better understanding of the country. During the next section of the tour, parents will join their children in an engaging treasure hunt at the local market which will be followed by a visit to a fortune teller and a delicious and traditional Burmese lunch. The rest of the day will be free for families to continue exploring.

Day 3: Yangon | Bagan | Minnanthu | Mount Popa
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Itinerary: Guests will depart early this morning for a short flight to Bagan where they will be picked up by a driver who will take them to Minnanthu. Upon arrival in Minnanthu, guests will share a yummy picnic lunch in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere surrounded by often deserted temples. After lunch and a little bit of exploring through the temples, guests will continue to Mount Popa to see the sunset among the temples located atop the mountain.

Day 4: Mount Popa | Bagan
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Itinerary: This morning, guests will leave Mount Popa for lower ground as they head back to Bagan to explore the ancient city. Guests will join a half-day guided tour through the temples located throughout the city, learning the history and mythology behind the ancient structures. The tour will also give families insight into the behaviour of the kings and queens of this period just before the Mongol invasion, helping to better understand Myanmar’s history. The afternoon will be spent exploring the city or enjoying the pool at the hotel.

Day 5: Bagan
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Itinerary: On the second day in Bagan, guests will travel by car to Kyauk Gu Ohmin cave temple rarely visited by tourists and a truly unique experience. Families will then continue to Pakkoku where they will visit the market and learn how the famous Pakkoku blankets are made. This visit will be followed by a glorious two hour cruise down the river. The families will exit the boat and walk to a nearby monastery where they will be served delicious and unique food from the “dry zone” that surrounds Bagan (made of mostly rice, peanuts, sesame seeds, and tamarine). The tour will then continue to visit one of the villages in this zone to see the way that the locals live and learn more about their culture and what it is like to live in such a dry area.

Day 6: Bagan | Heho | Inle Lake
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Itinerary: This morning guests will travel, by plane, to Heho. Upon arrival, a driver will take the families to Inle Lake. The day will be filled with visit the ruins of Indein as well as eating home-cooked meals with a local family that lives on the lake. There will also be a canoe trip to the floating gardens on the lake. When the little ones grow tired, there will be a motorboat available to take families back to their hotels for the evening.

Day 7: Inle Lake
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Itinerary: Families will set out on an adventurous hike this morning. First families will take a horse cart ride to the water’s edge where they will then hop in a boat to travel to the point where the journey will start. The day will be spent trekking through the region of the Shan State where the Pa O hill tribe lives. Over the course of the day, families will learn about the culture and daily life of the Pa O people as they visit various villages, try different foods, and even try on some traditional Pa O clothing! The day will end with a 2.5 hour walk through stunning landscapes and incredible views of the lake and the surrounding plantations. Families will then climb back into a boat and travel back to their hotel.

Day 8: Inle Lake
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Itinerary: Families will have the last full day of the tour to relax and explore the surrounding area on Inle Lake.

Day 9: Inle Lake
Meals: Breakfast
Itinerary: On the last morning of the tour, families will enjoy a final breakfast together, say their goodbyes, and transfer to the airport or continue on to their next destination.
